Yukumiya — A Traditional Okinawan Folk House in Nakijin

Yukumiya is a 60-year-old traditional Okinawan house in the quiet village of Nakijin, on the northern tip of Okinawa's main island. You rent the entire house, just for your group. There is no TV here. Instead there is the sound of wind through the wooden veranda, the smell of old timber, and a night sky full of stars. This is for travelers who want the real, unhurried Okinawa — the one that exists away from the resorts.

Good to Know

Yukumiya is an old house in a rural village. There is no television, and the mobile signal can be weak — this is part of the experience. Getting Here

By car: About 90 minutes from Naha Airport. A rental car is recommended and makes exploring the north of Okinawa easy.

By bus: Take the Yanbaru Express Bus bound for Unten Port (運天港) — about 2 hours 50 minutes from Naha Airport. Tell the driver you would like to get off at Kami-Unten Kominkan (上運天公民館), the crossroads nearest the house. Timetable: Yanbaru Express Bus.
